Hi Vis Vests are the most common Hi Visibility garment. Their uses are wide ranging and they are now a required item for many different jobs. A Hi Vis Vest is usually the basic requirement when enhanced visibility is required. They are made from a fluorescent material, which is 100% polyester, and have reflective bands and braces over the shoulders and around the body. Without the reflective tape, the vest would not conform to EN471, which is a requirement for use on site.

Fluorescent material on its own does not keep you visible at night. It is the reflective bands that provide the enhanced visibility. Only two colours of Hi Vis Vests are considered to be certified to EN471. They are Yellow and Orange. Other colours do exist but usually they do not conform.
